a href="home.html"> This peaceful mountiantop sanctuary can be enjoyed in many ways: for its amazing views, the eccentric ex-pat residents, fellow travelers and variety of hiking opportunities. The mountains of San Jose Del Pacifico's mountains reminded Ingrid of the earth goddes painted by Frida Kahlo in "The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), me and Senor Xolotl." The mountains were the warm arms of an earth Goddess and the cool vespers that caressed San Jose Del Pacifico's mountain's were like those of the sage universe of Kahlo's painting. Here Ingrid retells her experience of her time there: - - - - - - - - - -
A: "By the time we got to San Jose Del Pacifico, w e arrived in the late hours of the night. A full moon illuminated the magnificent mountain valley before us, embracing our tired traveled souls from the rush of Mexico City. " Q: What was it like where you stayed in SJDP? A: "The people in general on my trip were all wonderful. When we got to our final destination, our host welcomed us warmly, remembering a previous encounter with my partner and guided us down the dark outdoor stairways to our private cabana on the mountains edge." Q: Ingrid, your paintings tend to have a very ethereal tone, even in many of our travel-log pieces. What was the "vibe" you felt in SJDP? A: "This Oaxacan region was an enchanted place. When my travel partner and I arrived, its essence grounded our spirits, as though transcending our physical being into supernatural realms. These were the mountains that the beloved Maria Sabina once lived in her physical form. These are the mountains that her powerful spirit happily roams. -- I was in the space and yet removed from it as if I were watching a film reel at times. Its a place of amazin energy" Q: Your "Mountain Series" (Memoir de Montañas) has a specific lumiosity about it's two coner edges, emerging from this deep cool night. Can you talk about how you felt being out in the SJDP mountians? A: "Our guide had said, ' Just wait 'til you see the mountains in the daylight.' We stepped out and sat on the stoop, studying the range of this unbelievable spectacle... the full moon blessing our presence to the left and a sense of anticipation for the following days sunrise to the right. A forced wind rushed up the deep valley slope at our toes and sent a coolness up our spines. It was time for the warmth fire and peaceful rest. As the dawn brought forth our awakening for another day of intesive travel by bus, I greeted the days' first sunshine. A ghosted image of the full moon remained pressed in my memory. As Georgia O'Keefe once said about the sunshine in relation to a New York skyscraper, the Mexican dawn's sun bit a piece right out of the mountain range. Hence, the Memoir de Mexico series and Mountain Series began with a study for the power of love, beauty and magical experiences." - - - - - - - - - - Ingrid 's brush stroke have a special tepid calmness much different than some of her earlier yet signature pieces. In this particular series, "Mountain Series"(Memoir de Montañas) it's easy to see how being surrounded by nature truly affected this memory of the Mountains, the mountians of mystic spritual Maria Sabina. 9 February 2007 | 02.09.2007
