The mission of the art is to create a thought provoking
visual statement -- the translation of this message relies on the
power of the artist.
Women in art today have the overwhelming task to not only define
themselves clearly as artists, but also to successfully allude to
the female artists who've impacted history. 21st Century art seeks
to reinvent stories that relay themselves in the modes of modernity,
technology and humanity.

"[We women must] remember our
heritage is our power; we can know ourselves and our capacities
by seeing that other women have been strong."
--Judy Chicago

Judy Chicago, creator of "The Dinner Party," where unique place
settings are set at a triangular table. "Guests" of Chicago's think
tank of female minds and artistic interests is one such creation
of the 20th Century that successfully draws on the canon of art
and history. Chicago had said, "[We women must] remember our heritage
is our power; we can know ourselves and our capacities by seeing
that other women have been strong." I consciously think about remarks
like this as I work and think about how I express my feminine strength
through the expression of emotions like vulnerability, fear, confidence
or happiness.
Whether working in paint, textiles or sculpted mixed media forms,
it's my challenge to pull from that historic canon and see how I
relate to those styles ("Primitive" art, Baroque, Surreal,
Abstract, etc...). Understanding the evolution of artistic movements
and their relations to each other reflect my subject matter and
medium I choose to create the work.
As I mature and continue to experiment, it is my goal to always
elaborate on successful ideas in relation to the mission of art.
I hope you enjoy the electronically published material on my views
and experiences within the world of art.
